Scripture Magnets

So first of all, I did not come up with this idea all by myself, I found the scripture scene back drop on the right in the picture on another website ( I cant remember where right now) and it was actually suppose to be used in a manilla folder and the awesome lady who made it also made scripture characters to go with it.  I had been looking for some magnetic scripture pictures for Addy though and this worked perfectly! I just printed it off, colored it, laminated it, and slapped a magnet on the back.   The Noah's ark magnet I DID make myself and I searched for free animal clipart online and printed the animals out and colored them to go with the ark. I also made a few Bible and Book of Mormon prophets and other magnets for Addy to play with, too. She loves them, and since they're magnetic, she can play with them on our fridge while I'm making dinner and she doesn't need too much of my attention :).

Butterfly Match

When I was a kid my Mom homeschooled my siblings and me for a few years.  One of the fun/ educational extra activities my mom had for us were manila folder games and projects.  I remember there being a few math games, a few grammar games, and then some folders that were just for fun.  Anyway I was trying to think of a way to use manila folders for Addy (who is only 23 months old) and I came up with ideas like matching, learning the alphabet, and learning numbers.  The only one I've finished so far is this butterfly matching folder, I'll post the others when I finish them though :).

Diaper Wipe Case

Just made this diaper wipe case tonight while I caught up on general conference :). I really liked this project because the things I needed were things that I already had on hand and its no sew, all hot glued :).

Quiet Book #2

Here is the second quiet book I made.  This one is a church quiet book for Sundays, but Addy plays with it all week :).

Families Can Be Together Forever page- pocket on the left holds the felt hearts that stick to the felt tree on the right.
Follow the Prophet Page- The picture of the prophet slides in and out of the pocket (and because Addy likes to take out all the pictures in this book and look at them, all the pictures are laminated).  The pocket with the fish holds the Popsicle stick "fishing rod".
Fishers of Men page- The fish are magnetic and store in the pocket that they're sitting on.  The pocket buttons closed.
This is probably Addy's favorite page.

I Love to See the Temple pages- the left page is a flap that lifts up to show a picture of our family in front of the temple.  On the right page, the door on the temple opens to show a picture of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

I Hope They Call Me On a Mission pages- the pocket on the left holds the felt missionary clothes for the missionaries.  The clothes stick to the felt missionaries on the right.
When I Am 8 I Can Be Baptized Like Jesus Was pages- Picture of Jesus being baptized slides out of pocket.  On the right, the girl being baptized is attached to a ribbon and dips down under the water and back up.

Quiet Book #1

Hi everyone!  So when we found out that I was pregnant with my daughter a couple years ago I was determined to make a quiet book for her.  I started when I was pregnant and then I got super discouraged because well first I'd never attempted anything like this before and my sewing skills are minimal and I was trying to make it super detailed and follow specific instructions... yada yada yada.  Anyway, it took me about a year stopping and starting to finish this project but once I discovered that I did really well when I just sewed it together and added things my own way, this book just flew together.  It definitely isn't the most professional looking quiet book but Addy loves it and it makes me happy to see her playing with it so often.  After I finished this one I decided that I wanted to make a second one (since I had a little better idea of what I was doing) that would be more for church.  I'll post that one next.

This page is based on a stories that my Dad use to tell to me and my brother and sister every night when we were little.  The writing on the left side is how the stories always started and that brown pocket is where a pig puppet usually goes (it's M.I.A. right now, my little munchkin isn't sure where she left it).

If You Chance to Meet a Frown page- the mouth snaps on and off to make happy and frowny faces.

3 Little Speckled Frogs page-Lyrics are on the side with number beads.  Frogs are attached to ribbons and can reach the bugs flying and then jump into the "pool where it's nice and cool"- the blue pocket at the bottom of the page.

Monster Dress Up page- The monster bodies are in the big square pocket, the monster faces are in the small square pocket and then outfits are in the other 2 pockets.  The monsters Velcro onto the monster outline on the right page and the outfits Velcro onto the monsters.

This is one of Addy's favorite pages :).

Tan Shoes with Pink Shoelaces page- I don't know if many people know this song, but my mom use to sing the Tan Shoes with Pink Shoelaces song to me at night sometimes and it was one of my favorites.  The flowers button on and off and can go on different buttons and of course you can tie the shoe!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar page- The pocket holds the food and the food can go in through the caterpillars mouth and into his belly.  The flap on his belly lifts and you can see the food inside.

 The End :)

Make a Wish Stars

While I was pregnant I loved looking at baby nursery pictures in magazines or on the internet.  I would look in the backgrounds of pictures of cribs and changing tables and things like that and find really cute decorations and nick-knacks. The Make a Wish Stars is something that I came up with by putting several different background  decoration ideas together.  They're perfect for a peaceful nursery you're little cuddle bug can dream big in.

These Make a Wish Stars could be made so many different ways.  You could also do other shapes and signs that tie in a little better withu your nursery theme.

Baby Animal Quiet Book

While I was pregnant with Addy I was constantly trying to think of things to make and add to her nursery. We didn't have a big budget so almost all of our projects for the baby and decorations had to be homemade.  Which I love about her nursery now, it's so unique because everything was made by us.  One project that I really wanted to make was a quiet book.  I started to make a big quiet book, then realized that I wasn't going to finish before Addy was born so I made this quiet book first (I'm still working on the big one).  I didn't have a sewing machine at the time so I was looking for projects that would be easy to hand sew and this was definitely one of them.

I happened to have a lot of felt on hand and I used that for the pages.  I came up with a shape for the pages that I liked and made a pattern for it on piece of cardboard. I put the different color felt pages back to back and stitched them together with white thread.  And I cut the letters on the front and back of the book out of felt and sewed them on with white thread, too.

I drew up the animals then cut them out of felt, too.  For the writing I used used embroidery floss.  The regular thickness of embroidery floss was too thick so I peeled off 2 strands and thread them through my needle to stitch the words.

For most of the pages I tired to use colors of thread and felt that were bold and contrasting.  This page is less bold than most of the others, but I think this is my favorite page because my owl came out pretty cute :). My daughters favorite page is the one before this though, it has a red page and blue page and the animal is a cow- she loves the black and white cow on the red page.

This is my baby chick page.  The other animals I used were a cow, a horse, and a pig. And then at the end, after all the animal pages, I want to go back and add a page that says "the baby says..." and then have a baby cooing. But I haven't done that yet.

And then this is the back of the book.  I held the book together with a big binder ring.  And now this quiet book sits in Addyson's nursery with her books and toys and she loves it :).
